In addition to diagnostic agents for SPECT imaging, EC technology is being used to develop diagnostic agents for use with PET cameras. Pre-clinical imaging studies with gallium-68 (“68 Ga”) labeled guanosin have been conducted in rats with lung and breast cancer. The quality of the imaging was very encouraging. For PET applications, the company's interest is to develop PET agents that use generator based radioisotopes as opposed to cyclotron based radioisotopes. Work has also begun on the development of 68Ga-EC-metronidazole as a PET hypoxia agent.
